Got one back in 87 and cycled it in London when London was not bike friendly. Very rigid frame (which saved me from going over on gravel once). I bought just the frame, with a hotch potch of equipment, some second hand, to make it affordable. I upgraded some of the equipment eventually, though it's still a hotch potch, so it has many more than the original 12 gears. Before I became completely unfit I did a ride with some friends in Western Wales and it was painful with just 12 more or less racing gears - except on the flat by Lake Bala when I accidentally left my younger, fitter, multi-geared companions miles behind and had to go back and search :) Now it has a much wider gear range, but alas I stopped cycling and became very unfit. The bike still sits there, like a quiet old friend making only the slightest hint of an accusation from time to time - but it's hard to get fitness back at my age.
ReplyDeleteI think it's a beautiful bike. Served me well for many years. Felt great when all the bags were full and it had a lot of weight on it. Despite the neglect of recent years there is, of course, no rust.
Phenomenal ride I still have mine from
ReplyDeleteCollege with mostly original equipment. The stiff frame is aggressive and responsive if a little hard on the body over rough roads. Mine is the ‘88 edition. I keep it for sentimental reasons, but it is still going strong. Solid rig.
